Biting For Britain

Real Estate brokers are asked to sell some strange things
sometimes but Mayfair International Realty member firm, Keys, who
are based in Norfolk, England have just sold one of the
strangest.
The firm, who are also antique
auctioneers, have just sold a set of Winston Churchill’s
false teeth. The price was well in excess of the guide price
of £5000 ($7,500). When the hammer fell the wartime
leader’s dentures fetched £15,200 ($22,800)!
Dental technician, Derek Cudlipp,
made the teeth. Churchill valued the man’s skill very
highly. Indeed his work was so important to Churchill that
the World War II prime minister would not let him join up to fight.
When Mr. Cudlipp’s call up papers arrived Churchill
personally tore them up saying that Mr. Cudlipp would be more
important to the war effort if he stayed in London to repair his
dentures!
Churchill carried two sets of false
teeth with him at all times. They were carefully made to
preserve his slight but distinctive lisp. Not only did they
help Churchill speak clearly and effectively but also they
contributed to the effective style of the great wartime orator.
