Cora Bett Thomas Realty Senior Staff Member, Catherine Hemmi-Joyce, Awarded Designation as Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)

Cora Bett Thomas Realty & Associates proudly announces Catherine Hemmi-Joyce as a recent recipient of the Court Appointed Special Advocate Designation (CASA).

From the CASA website - “Every child should have a safe, loving and permanent home, but unfortunately many do not. Each year in Chatham County, hundreds of abused or neglected children become entangled in an overcrowded juvenile justice and foster care system. A large majority of the children are removed from their homes and placed in an already overburdened system where they can get “lost” for months or even years.”

In their unique role, CASA volunteers complete 40 hours of training and go on to focus only on the child and their needs— until that child has a safe and permanent home. The CASA volunteer makes a recommendation to the judge and follows through with the child until all advocacy issues have been resolved.

“I am extremely proud of Catherine who consistently works very hard and has shown true commitment to the children of our community,” said Cora Bett Thomas, founder and CEO of Cora Bett Thomas Realty.  “We are blessed as a community to have the CASA program and individuals like Catherine who step up and make a priceless contribution not only to the child in need but the community at large.”
