LONGBOAT KEY HOME SELLS FOR $2.9 MILLION

ICONIC PROPERTY ATTRACTS MULTIPLE OFFERS IN ITS FIRST TIME ON THE MARKET IN OVER FORTY YEARS

A home on the north end of Longboat Key sold this week for $2.9 million. Built in 1970, the beachfront property at 5881 Gulf of Mexico Drive was listed for $3.25 million and is well known to residents of Longboat Key as the identical twin of the home depicted on an iconic poster of the Key painted by local artist John Dineen. Erected by the same builder, this property had two wings added in 1980.

Listed by Richard Perlman, of the Longboat Key South office of Michael Saunders & Company, the property attracted multiple offers before being sold to an international buyer from the Czech Republic—who purchased it sight unseen.

Set on nearly 1.5 secluded acres, this vintage Gulf-front property is nestled among other similarly-sized estate parcels; and has been painstakingly maintained and preserved for decades. Listed in late 2012, this was the first time the property had been on the market since it was built in 1970 and enlarged in 1980. It was bound to contract after only 131 days.

Built entirely of cypress—both inside and out—the 3,200 square foot home is one of the few remaining vestiges of an earlier, more sparsely developed Longboat Key. Inclusive of four bedrooms with cathedral ceilings throughout, the home enjoys complete privacy and breathtaking vistas of the Gulf of Mexico. Additionally, it inhabits a stretch of shoreline that many residents consider Longboat Key’s “golden mile,” because the beach is unusually deep and the homes along it are among the most exclusive on the island. For these reasons, it has been frequented over the years by celebrities in search of beachfront privacy, including members of the rock band Aerosmith.

The buyer was represented by Ivo Travnicek, an agent with Regency Realty Solutions of Boca Raton, Fl. Richard Perlman is with the Longboat Key South office of Michael Saunders & Company, located at 440 Gulf of Mexico Drive.
