Melanie Delman Lists Newport’s “Ocean Lawn”, Former Firestone Estate

Melanie Delman, President of Lila Delman Real Estate International, has just listed “Ocean Lawn,” a stately Gilded Age estate once owned by Harvey S. Firestone and his wife, Elizabeth Parke Firestone.

“In a burgeoning market for luxury properties, this incredible home is a rare gem,” says Melanie Delman.

The meticulously maintained mansion is sited upon six and one half acres, with 515 feet of frontage on the Atlantic Ocean.

The eminent Boston firm of Peabody & Stearns designed “Ocean Lawn,” with its Queen Anne exterior and graceful, well-proportioned rooms. The park-like grounds were designed and landscaped by the acclaimed firm of Innocenti & Webel.

Harvey S. Firestone, son of the founder of Firestone Tire and Rubber along with his wife, Elizabeth Parke Firestone, acquired “Ocean Lawn” in the 1950’s.  Mrs. Firestone, a leading connoisseur of the arts, was an avid collector and had special closets constructed within the mansion for her couture clothing and glass collections.  She mastered the art of living in the style of Newport and her interiors acquired the patina of fine antique paneling. Windows were fitted with handmade shutters and the drapes were made by Scalamandré. Even the entry gates and lights were custom made for her in France. “Ocean Lawn” contains 24 rooms and also features a children's playhouse and a pool.

“’Ocean Lawn’ is a rare piece of Newport’s unique history, close to all the cultural and sports offerings, as well as its pleasures of clubs and restaurants,”  remarks Ms. Delman.

Melanie Delman of Lila Delman Real Estate International recently sold Fairholme, the former estate of Robert & Anita Young, twice in the past year.

The estate is listed at $18,500,000. For further information, or to request a showing, contact Melanie Delman, at Melanie.Delman@LilaDelman.com or 401.284.4820.
