Two Sarasota Area Homes Are Ranked Among America’s Most Spectacular Beach Homes

Estate on Siesta Key Earns The Top Position; Casey Key Estate is Ranked Ninth

As featured on Time Magazine’s/Moneyland web site, two Sarasota area properties have been ranked on the list of 2011’s Top 10 Most Spectacular Beach Homes compiled by TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.

One of the homes—an estate property in the exclusive Sanderling Club on Siesta Key—occupies the number one position on the list, which has also been showcased on CNBC, USA Today, Yahoo and AOL Real Estate.  The other, a Gulf-front estate on Casey Key, is ranked ninth on the list.  Both were designed by noted Sarasota architect Guy Peterson, FAIA; and are currently being offered for sale through Mayfair International Realty members Michael Saunders & Company.

“Earning the top spot on such an impressive list of luxury properties is even more gratifying because the competition includes some of the most spectacularly-designed oceanfront homes in the Hamptons, Laguna Beach, Malibu, Carmel and Kamuela, Hawaii,” said Linda Roe Dickinson, of Michael Saunders & Company, who is the listing agent for the Siesta Key property. “The property has also been featured in Four Florida Moderns, a book by Saxon Henry that celebrates the architectural designs of Guy Peterson.”

The dramatically sculpted residence, which is situated on 1.53 acres in the very private and gated Sanderling Club on Siesta Key, resulted from four-year collaboration between the homeowners and Peterson.  In the end, all agree that they achieved exactly the timeless and contemporary masterpiece that was envisioned for the property.

“The purity and logic of a simple concrete frame is enriched by the placement of volumetric “cubes,” says Peterson, who organized the home’s living spaces into color coded cubes. The cubes reflect a privacy gradient from public uses and shared spaces to private family areas and a children's zone. The home makes maximum use of its beachfront setting with deep overhangs that shade the property from direct sunlight but allow for maximum light and spectacular water views.

“In Oasis by the Sea, Peterson has designed an incredible piece of art in architecture,” says Saunders agent Deborah Beacham of her Casey Key listing, which occupies the ninth spot on the same list. “This fabulous ‘smart home’ is set on the exclusive island of Casey Key where there are no traffic lights, no high rise condominiums and fewer than 400 single family homes. Casey Key is truly a destination for those who desire a location off the beaten path.”

Completed in 2008, Oasis by the Sea includes amazing views of the Gulf of Mexico through towering walls of glass as well as inviting outdoor spaces that extend from the interior living areas. This home—which has won numerous awards, including the silver winner of SRQ's Annual Home of the Year—is for the sophisticated collector who will cherish the islands exquisite privacy while appreciating its proximity to the cultural amenities of nearby Sarasota.”

“This house is composed of two simple pavilions separated by a transparent two story connector containing the entry on the ground level and a bridge on the second level linking the living spaces,” explains architect Peterson.  “The primary (Gulf facing) pavilion contains the main living spaces of the house and the owner's private suite and office.  All enjoy commanding views of the Gulf of Mexico.”
