Hugh Auchincloss and Janet Lee Bouvier purchased the property during John F. Kennedy’s presidency. Other prominent owners of the home include Louis Mackall, a distinguished Georgetown attorney; and Laughlin Phillips, former CIA officer, founder of Washingtonian magazine and board chairman of the Phillips Collection. United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton considered purchasing the home after she was newly elected to the Senate in 2000.

Built in 1870, the four-level residence is an original grand home of Georgetown with over 11,000 square feet of living space, making it one of the largest residential homes in the neighborhood. It features soaring ceilings, twelve fireplaces, nine bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a deep, south garden with a swimming pool and a three-car garage.

Washington Fine Properties represented both sides of the transaction. Kimberly Casey and Daryl Judy represented the purchasers and William F. X. Moody, Robert Hryniewicki and Adam Rackliffe represented the sellers. This is the second time Washington Fine Properties has been involved in selling this significant property in the past twelve years.
