Bonnie Spindler, top producing agent at Zephyr Real Estate, is featured in the current issue of Realtor Magazine. The article, entitled “Home Style Specialists Share Their Secrets, ” highlights Bonnie’s expertise on San Francisco’s Victorian homes. For 20 years, Bonnie has held the client-generated title of Victorian Specialist because of her love of the architecture, the décor and the colorful history. The article in Realtor Magazine proclaims her “The Historian,” and she is that and more.
Bonnie’s knowledge and familiarity with the benefits as well as the drawbacks of dealing with homes built between 1837 and 1901 began when she relocated to San Francisco from Minnesota in the 1990s. Her love of Victorian and Edwardian architecture drew her immediately to the Painted Ladies in Alamo Square, and her career as Victorian Specialist continued to flourish.
The romance of the era is illustrated in the multi-color exterior palette, the built-ins, carved wood and intricate detailing in both Victorian and Edwardian (1901 to 1910) homes. While the structure of homes from this era is typically very sound, the utilities –or lack thereof – can pose a challenge for renovators. Bonnie points out the necessity for choosing a capable contractor who is knowledgeable of the genre so that the home’s character can be preserved as much as possible.
Bonnie’s background includes antique sales, advertising and interior design, a winning combination for her chosen profession in real estate. She purchased her first home, a historic craftsman, at age 23, and took on the task of learning firsthand how to renovate the old fixer. She parlayed that original investment and experience into a highly successful career including multiple top-producer awards both company-wide and city-wide. She has surrounded herself with a team of professionals ready to take on any challenge whether it’s Victorian or any other style in the eclectic Bay Area.
“Victorian Specialist is a designation of which I’m particularly proud,” remarked Bonnie. “Though the supply of Victorian homes is limited, the demand is there, and it’s very rewarding to help someone who loves the era find the home of their dreams or market the home they have loved.”
