Scott Yarmark, an agent at Zephyr Real Estate’s Upper Market office, is one of the featured speakers in the KRON 4 Salute to Pride during the month of June.

June is LGBT Pride Month, in recognition of the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, which marked the tipping point of the gay liberation movement in this country. Initially, the last Sunday of June was acknowledged at Gay Pride Day. That day, however, soon grew into a month-long celebration that includes, parades, workshops, concerts and marches as well as memorials for victims of hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The month is dedicated to observing the impact that the movement has had on history both locally and globally.

“In a world that doesn’t always want us, we’ve made it. We’ve survived. We’ve carved out a place for ourselves,” states Scott. “We’ve built families and friendships and created beautiful things, and there’s joy in that.”

San Francisco is home to one of the largest and most prominent LGBT communities in the world, with roots back to the early 1900s. From architecture to human rights, from art to commerce, the effect of LGBT awareness and acceptance is apparent throughout the Bay Area.

Scott Yarmark arrived in San Francisco in 1995 and realized he was home.
