Description

Everything about this superb property demonstrates quality of the highest order. Built of fine materials and to a design typical of its environment, it is quite clear that neither thought nor expense were spared in its construction, specification and finishing.

As the photographs clearly illustrate, there is an air of modern elegance and luxury living throughout the beautifully finished interior. However, no photographs can do justice to the property and it requires a detailed inspection in order to appreciate fully all that this delightful home has to offer.

The spacious reception hall features a handsome staircase and provides the first of many examples of the use of warm looking polished wood, which will be seen as floors, the staircase, doors and their frames and built in furniture, including wardrobes and cupboard units.

A cloakroom, with toilet and wash basin, leads off the hall and is the first example of the high quality sanitary ware to be found in all the bathrooms and shower rooms. The wonderfully sized living room leads off the hall and has a spacious dining area at one end.

The principal kitchen has an extensive range of fitted units, whilst the built in appliances include oven, hob and dishwasher. The freestanding refrigerators are also included. At one end, the brick feature incorporates storage cupboards and a mock fireplace. There is ample space for the table and chairs which, again, are included. The second kitchen is also extensively fitted and has a built in oven and hob, plus table and chairs.

Tiled floors are a feature of the kitchens and bathrooms and are complemented by the equally distinctive and high quality wall tiling.

The master bedroom has a fine range of built in wardrobes and the luxuriously appointed en suite bathroom. The other three double bedrooms are all of a good size and serviced by two further well appointed bathrooms.

On the third floor, the penthouse area enjoys fabulous views of the sea and over Funchal, full advantage being taken of these through the living room and balcony. There is also a shower room at this level.

Back on the ground floor, the bar and barbeque areas are excellent features of the villa, as are the terraces and walkways which surround it. The remarkable garage accommodates six cars, leaving ample storage and workshop space. Adjoining the garage is an office with living area, cloakroom with toilet and shower, workshop and additional room which could be used in a variety of ways.

Perhaps the most amazing feature of the property is the wine cellar, which adjoins the garage. As the photgraphs reveal, this is no ordinary cellar and must be every home wine maker’s dream! It includes a full range of professional wine making equipment and storage facilities.

All the services of the property are to the same high standards of the other elements of the specification. The house has full central heating, which is reversible to provide discreet air conditioning throughout. In addition, all windows are double glazed in hardwood frames and the residence is protected by a comprehensive security system.

The property is situated in the area of Livramento Monte, which is just outside and above the city of Funchal. Good local shopping and other facilities are close at hand and an easy 10 minute drive will take you to the centre of Funchal. The elevated position ensures that the property enjoys wonderful views from its windows, terraces and balconies.

FUNCHAL

Funchal has been the capital city of Madeira for more than 500 years, resulting from the original settlements of the early 15th century created by Portuguese explorers, who included Christopher Columbus later in the century. As well as being an important maritime centre since its foundation, it also became the centre of the island’s substantial sugar industry, whilst production of the famous Madeira wine was started there very early in its history.

Today, Funchal is a world class tourist destination for visitors arriving at its international airport or on one of the large number of cruise ships which regard it as an essential element of their itinerary. It is no surprise, therefore, that the city has hotels, restaurants, clubs, bars, shops and other facilities to rival those of most tourist centres around the world.

Being the thoroughly modern city that it is has not compromised the many historic attractions which Funchal has to offer, the fine cathedral and many other churches being prominent amongst them. Many of the 15th and 16th century buildings, erected on the back of the sugar industry, survive in and around the centre of the city.

The weekend markets are a colourful part of Funchal life, whilst there is an exciting calendar of events throughout the year, including the Carnival, Flower Festival, Atlantic Festival, which embraces the Madeira Music Festival and International Fireworks Competition, Jazz and Art Festivals, the Wine Festival and many others too numerous to mention.

Christmas and New Year are major celebrations in Funchal and on the rest of the island and the New Year fireworks display has been officially recognized as the largest in the world. The city is also regarded as the most picturesque, as well as the cleanest, capital city in Europe.

MADEIRA

The island of Madeira, together with the small neighbouring islands of Porto Santo (where Christopher Columbus lived for some years) and the uninhabited and protected Desertas and Savage Islands, form an autonomous region of Portugal.

The island is famous for its flowers, spectacular scenery, benign climate, embroidery artisans and Madeira wine and has been an important tourist destination for some two hundred years. Today, it is visited by around one million tourists every year.

Madeira is the second wealthiest region of Portugal after Lisbon. Political autonomy was granted in 1976, as a result of which the archipelago has its own government and legislative assembly. This significant degree of independence is celebrated on Madeira Day every 1st July.
