Historic Reno Nixon Mansion Receives National Heritage Award

The beautiful and storied Nixon mansion received the 2016 National Heritage Award from the Associated Realty of the Americas organization last month.

Chase International real estate broker Trinkie Watson accepted the award on behalf of the owners at the awards ceremony held in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Nixon Mansion, a 17,000 plus square foot residence originally built in 1907, was completely restored after a devastating fire and is currently on the market for $16.4 million.

“It’s truly an honor to see such an amazing property in our area gain national recognition for its exceptional restoration,” Watson said.

The award was developed to reward those who preserve and protect the environment and historic properties throughout North America.

“This award has been created to honor those who preserve and protect,” said Katy Bullock, program chair. “Now, more than ever our environment and wonderful gifts that signify our historical character are under intense pressure. We salute those who have worked to care for these national properties and for their vision, understanding and wise direction as they adhere to the tenets of responsible stewardship.”

The Italian villa takes its name from its original owner, Nevada Senator George S. Nixon, who built the prestigious estate on just over two acres. The majestic home originally had 33 rooms, and was one of Reno’s first residences to have an elevator.

A fire left the mansion uninhabitable in 1979, and the current owners purchased the estate in 2002, spending the last decade meticulously restoring the property inside and out.

The Nixon Mansion is currently listed with Realtors Sandi Solomonson, Donna Spear and Trinkie Watson of Chase International.

“I see enormous potential for the estate to serve as a corporate retreat, an off-campus office, or a destination for special events,” said Donna Spear.

Though grand in nature, the home also lends itself to intimate social gatherings in the parlor, library, and the river-view terrace, and the nine beautifully restored fireplaces throughout the home lend an air of warmth to any occasion.

The Nixon Mansion not only stands as witness to a significant and colorful past, but also as a sentinel for a bright and polished future. ?
