The pick of the bunch …………….

Famous for many well known songs such as “The Rose” and “Wind Beneath My Wings” Bette Midler is selling her New York apartment at 1125 Fifth Avenue which she and her family have called home for more than 20 years. Midler and her husband the performance artist Martin von Haselberg, are believed to be “empty nesters” now so ready to move to something smaller – whilst still in Manhattan.

Midler once described the home as “a country house in the city”. It was renovated by Frederick Fisher and Partners and occupies the building’s 15, 16th, and 17th floors. Each level of the apartment has a different use: Its five bedrooms are on the lowest level, including a master suite with a huge dressing room and en-suite bathroom. In the middle, there’s an eat-in kitchen and dining room, as well as a large living room with huge windows and Central Park views. And the uppermost floor is mostly devoted to a terrace, although there is a lovely library nook with built-in bookshelves. Perhaps the most special feature are the amazing views of the Central Park reservoir, which is directly across Fifth Avenue from the building. With two huge terraces – one on the 16th Floor and one on the 17th you can enjoy these views from much of the property.

There’s a wraparound terrace on the 16th floor, and an expansive one on the 17th floor - perfect for taking in those views.

The agent, John Burger at Brown Harris Stevens says “  This magnificent and impressive 14 room Penthouse occupies the top three floors of one of Fifth Avenue's finest full service prewar cooperative buildings on Carnegie Hill. The residence offers spectacular views of Central Park, the Reservoir and the iconic Manhattan skyline. Abundant sunlight streams in throughout the day from all four exposures.

The outstanding residence boasts approximately 7,000 square feet of interior space, in addition to over 3,000 square feet of landscaped terraces. The terraces are perfectly situated off of the living room, dining room and library, making them ideal for entertaining.

Upon arrival, a private elevator landing opens onto a large open gallery flooded with southern light. The gallery flows into an impressive and vast 70 foot sweep of entertaining space with exceptionally high ceilings. This ideal entertaining space includes a double living room, large open dining room, and a sundrenched renovated eat-in-kitchen. The kitchen incorporates custom wood cabinetry, marble counter tops, and top of the line appliances including a Fisher & Paykel induction range , Sub Zero refrigerator and Miele dishwasher. The entertainment floor of the residence is surrounded by brilliantly landscaped terraces which seamlessly merge with breathtaking vistas of Central Park, the Reservoir, and dramatic Manhattan skyline views. A private study/home office and guest bathroom complete this floor.

The stunning and dramatic library occupies the entire top floor of the penthouse and boasts soaring 13 ft. ceilings, a wood burning fireplace, floor-to-ceiling bookcases, and breathtaking oversized windows facing West and South capturing sweeping Central Park and Reservoir views. The library opens onto yet another magnificently landscaped rooftop garden oasis encompassing over 900 square feet and enjoying open views in every direction. A full bathroom completes this floor.

The private bedroom floor of the residence offers the flexibility of a six or seven bedroom layout. The two enormous bedrooms facing onto Central Park each have outstanding closet space, oversized bathrooms, and generous dressing areas. The beautiful corner master bedroom suite has oversized picture windows and a wonderful adjacent study/dressing room with a wood burning fireplace. The Eastern wing of this level includes a 24 x 17 family room with open city views, as well as three additional bedrooms. A full laundry and pressing room is conveniently located on this floor.

The building was built in 1925 and designed by renowned architect Emery Roth in Neo-Renaissance Style. Residents of this full service cooperative enjoy the highest level of service, privacy and security. A brand new fitness room is being installed, and additional downstairs storage is available for each apartment. “
